THE PROPOSAL

Friday, June 21, 2013 – Summer Solstice & Supermoon
Excited for a weekend away, I couldn’t believe the massive traffic we hit… what a nightmare! I just wanted to get through the Holland Tunnel, grab lunch at Nando’s favorite restaurant, Altos Horas, and get our weekend started!
At some point, Fernando suggested that we skip eating and just head to the campsite. Little did I know that he was scared we’d miss one of the most important moments of our life! After a few frantic phone calls to the campsite, we finally arrived at the Spain 2, were we were supposed to have dinner.
As we sat at the bar, finally relaxing after rushing all day, I looked around at the horses on the property and asked if we were going horseback riding. Fernando simply responded, “We’re going for a ride.” As we finished our drinks and went out the back of the restaurant I noticed a hot air balloon basket and a man I’d later find out was Tom, our pilot from In Flight Balloon Adventures. My nerves and excitement didn’t even let me realize that something was up! I just thought the whole thing was another part of what Fernando told me was my birthday weekend celebration.
As we went up in the balloon I was so consumed with the amazing view and unexpected experience. It was only a few seconds before Fernando told me to look over at something below us. As I saw the huge banner that said “Will you marry me?” I looked back and realized Fernando was down on one knee, saying the most beautiful words. After a few tears (and the shock) subsided I of course said yes!
